The Katsina State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading, reports circulating on social media suggesting that bandits have taken control of Kankara Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, described the claim—widely shared on platform X (formerly Twitter)—as "baseless, unfounded, and mischievous," aimed at causing unnecessary fear and panic among residents.
“The situation in Kankara remains calm and under control. Residents are going about their normal activities without disruption,” the statement read.
The police emphasized that, alongside other security agencies, proactive steps have been taken to tackle banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling across the state. These efforts, according to the command, are already producing positive results.
The command urged the public to disregard the viral report and rely only on verified information from credible sources. It also warned social media users against spreading unverified claims that could endanger public peace.
“The command has launched an investigation to uncover the origin of the false report and will take appropriate action against those responsible,” the statement added.
The Katsina Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents across the state.
